TOURING BURMA CAMP
By : PHEONA SEIWAA APPAH Burma Camp is a military camp in Accra - Ghana located along the 37 to Labadi road. It is the headquarters of the Ghana Armed Forces and the Ghanaian Ministry of Defence. It retains notoriety and fear from previous Ghanaian military regimes,which civilians who entered the camp might not remerge. It was also the sight of fighting during the June 1979 Coup that placed Jerry John Rawlings in power. The camp is a work place and at the same time a living place for the military personnels which makes the camp a town on its own. It consists of schools, churches, various bus stops, homes, work places and recreational centres. Even though it is known as a military camp, it can be a very comfortable and secured place to live.
